About Your Host

Your Host, Michael NolanMy name is Michael Nolan.  I’m so close that I may as well say I’m 35 years old.  I live in Birmingham, Alabama with my partner Kenny and our two canine companions Maia and Duncan.

I’ve been interested in and involved with natural health, spiritual pursuits and environmental issues for as long as I can remember and have always drifted toward the “liberal granolaboy” label.  I am proud that I prefer soy milk to regular cow’s milk.  I’m not ashamed that I live in the buckle of the Bible belt and would rather have a salad than a steak (most of the time).

While I’m not currently a strict vegetarian, I did spend 11 years as a vegetarian, 2 of those as a devout vegan.  I have studied the raw food diet and lived on 90% raw foods for just under a year.  I did feel better than I ever have, but the time and expense were prohibitive (I lived in a major city at the time).

Last month I gave up my pack-a-day cigarette habit and Kenny followed suit two weeks later.  Around the same time we decided jointly to give up alcohol. Though we were only social drinkers we didn’t see much benefit.

I enjoy yoga and any type of exercise that gets me outdoors.  Hiking, camping or swimming excursions will always win my vote!

I created Better Life Blog (BLB) because I wanted a central place on the web to store all of the great information I come across in magazines, books, on television and on the Internet, as well as a place to share recipes and lifestyle tips that have helped me along my journey.

My goal is to post info that you will find useful, beneficial and sometimes even entertaining in your daily life, on topics ranging from food, diet, health, exercise, spirituality, even organization and cleaning.

I hope you enjoy BLB.  Feedback is always encouraged, so send me a comment anytime!
