My name is Michael Nolan. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment in Birmingham, Alabama with my partner and our two dogs, Maia and Duncan. I like to tell people I’ve forgotten more than most will ever learn and to be honest I only partially intend it as a joke.
With my 35th birthday just four months away, I guess you could say that my way of thinking has undergone a huge transformation lately. I gave up cigarettes a bit over two weeks ago and alcohol a few days later. I wasn’t severely addicted to either (though I was smoking about a pack a day), but my body simply told me that it was ready. Aside from the obvious health benefit, I am thus far saved over $100 that I would previously spend on cigarettes alone.
I created Better Life Blog as a sort of virtual warehouse to store interesting bits of information that will in some way contribute to making your life better. Whenever possible, I will be using firsthand experience as my guide and posting photographs and diaries. This blog will include things that range from diet and exercise to shopping and entertaining. The only rule here is that everything I post here will, if given the opportunity, impact your life in a positive way.
As I get older, I want to be sure I am have a difference for someone, somewhere. Let’s just call BLB my little gift to you. Here’s to a Better Life!

Oh – congrats on kicking the cigs. I quit 2 months ago and am feeling much better for it. I wake up in the morning and feel much more alert than I have felt in about 5 years! I still wander around my house looking a bit dazed and confused for a bit, but I certainly wake up much quicker. The only downside was that my skin absolutely exploded with zits about a month into quitting, that was pretty bad, but it only lasted about three weeks. Just about back to normal now!

Thanks for the kudos. I’ve been incredibly lucky this time around. After nearly a month, I’ve had nearly ZERO withdrawal issues and no problems with my stomach or my skin at all.
